As a mother of four, with a Secondary Education degree in Social Science and graduate studies in Information Science, I was teaching 4th grade Vacation Bible School one summer at our church in Wildwood, Missouri when the seed of inspiration was planted for InStructures!
The lesson of the day was Noah’s Ark and I was struck by the fact that God gave Noah VERBAL instructions on how to build a pretty complex structure…the Ark! To illustrate how difficult such a task might be, I had the class sit on one side of a classroom partition. On the other side of that partition, I built a random structure using picnic cups and and paper plates. One by one, the students took their turn being “God” and stood where they could see both sides. Their job was to give verbal instructions to get their classmates to build the structure that they could see but their classmates could not!
The students LOVED it and wanted to play the game every day! Little did I know at the time…but InStructures was born! I could not get this new activity out of my mind, but had no idea of how to take the next step toward an actual board game! After several years of trying to get my very talented husband to help, he finally gave in and committed to spend time with me to develop a real game.
Together we began a journey to learn how to develop a board game, test it, manufacture it, market it… WOW! Were we naïve! Five long years later we were finally ready to launch! You can follow our journey by clicking on Jane’s Blog. I hope you have as much fun with your family playing InStructures as I have had bringing this wonderful family game to you. My hope and prayer is that you will use this game to spend precious time with your kids! As my pastor often says, "Kids spell LOVE "T-I-M-E". Please contact us and let us know how InStructures brings your family together!
